The Shining was, famously, adapted by director-producer Stanley Kubrick and screenwriter Diane Johnson in 1980. Though Stephen King himself had mixed (but mostly negative) feelings about the adaptation and its deviation from the content of the novel, the film has rightfully entered the canon of American horror and has left an indelible mark on pop culture.
