Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1964. First edition. Originally published in the US three years before being published in the UK. True first issue of this children's classic with the six line colophon on the last page of the book and no isbn number on the dust jacket. Book in Fine condition, but with a small stain on the edge of the last two leaves, otherwise a clean, fresh copy. Near Fine dust jacket a bit toned and with some minor wear at the spine ends and corners. But a handsome copy overall.

Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book about the poor Charlie Bucket winning a ticket to a tour of Willy Wonka’s legendary and mysterious candy factory. The book was inspired by Dahl’s own experiences with chocolate as a young boy and the fierce rivalry between the two principal English chocolate makers, Cadbury and Rowntree. The book was also adapted into the cult classic 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with a screenplay written by Dahl and starring a memorable Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.
Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. (Item #7884)
