Publisher’s original vellum-backed black cloth with white ski-track motif to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, original acetate dust jacket. Color frontispiece portrait by Amherst Villiers, title printed in red and black. A little spotting to endpapers and a few further leaves, a few small faint marks to binding. An excellent example with the acetate jacket and without any of the usual chipping.

At its release, this novel set records as being the most popular of Fleming books, with the initial and secondary print runs immediately selling out. This was in part due to concurrent filming of Bond movies including Dr. No, as well as the novel’s startling revelations about Bond’s character. As he battles against new developments in biological warfare, 007 also reveals a more emotional human side. The book received strong reviews and continues to be among the most thrilling and popular in Fleming’s oeuvre.
