Camus’ groundbreaking debut novel, first published in French in 1942, follows the story of the emotionally cold and uncaring Meursault, who cryptically shoots and kills an Arab on a beach. This incredibly influential novel is thought to typify Camus’ idea of the absurdness of man’s condition, a theme which runs throughout his works.
