(Item #960) One of Ours. Willa Cather.

One of Ours

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1922. First trade edition. Stated second printing after the signed, ltd. first edition. A Near Fine copy of the book with bright orange top-stain. Previous ownership markings erased from front paste-down and a few rust spots on outer-edge of the page block, otherwise a bright, sharp copy of the book. In a Very Good example of the rare dust jacket, reinforced on the verso with tape and chipped at the extremities, but still a bright, unfaded example of the yellow variant jacket (also known in red and blue-green).

We can find no copies in jacket offered at auction and just one (inferior) copy on the web. Cather's powerful novel, following the life and exploits of Claude Wheeler, first in rural Nebraska and later in the French battles of WWI. "As rugged and real a picture of a farm boy who grew to full manhood as ever has been painted by an American." (Contemporary review in "The Emporia Gazette")
