Horsemeat (Signed limited edition)

Santa Barbara: Black Sparrow Press, 1982. Michael Montfort. First edition. Number 10 of 125 copies. Signed by the author and photographer on the limitation page with small drawing by Bukowski. Fine in nearly Fine publisher's acetate. Tan boards with mounted color photograph of Bukowski on the cover, minor loss to paper at rear bottom hinge. Some expected scuffing to acetate jacket. Appearing virtually unread and maintaining all 20 Montfort photographs; publisher's advertisement with additional color photograph of the author laid in.

Horsemeat—written for the "gamblers" as Bukowski dedicates in his introduction—is poetic panegyric of the horse race track. The author famously loved betting at the track and in his poetry captures all of that environment’s gritty highs and lows. Montfort's almost dreamlike photographs of Bukowski at the races evokes this sensory experience for readers.
