The Yearling
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1938. First edition. A Fine book inNear Fine jacket. Book is extremely clean internally, but the top-stain is faded. Jacket bright and unfaded with just a few short tears at the edges, but overall a lovely copy.
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' beloved 1938 novel, set in rural Florida. The Yearling follows the story of Jody Baxter, a child who becomes friends with a fawn after his father kills the fawn’s mother. The book was the best selling novel the year it was released and would win the Pulitzer Prize. Translated into over twenty languages, The Yearling was also adapted into a 1946 film starring Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman, who would both receive Academy Award nominations for their performances. “The thing about The Yearling, its great claim to distinction, is that it is able to make so much of simple, homely events” (Contemporary New York Times review). Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. (Item #5586)
