(Item #465) ETIQUETTE IN SOCIETY, IN BUSINESS, IN POLITICS, AND AT HOME. Emily Post.

ETIQUETTE IN SOCIETY, IN BUSINESS, IN POLITICS, AND AT HOME

New York and London: Funk and Wagnalls, 1922. First edition. First printing of Post's iconic treatise on proper behavior in every conceivable setting, a best seller that has been in print ever since 1922. A Fine book in just about Fine dust jacket with a one inch tear on the front panel, but as bright and fresh as one could wish. The first printing of the book is rare, exceptionally so in jacket. We could find no copies offered at a major auction house in the past 35 years and only a few, inferior examples offered by our colleagues.

More important than its scarcity, this is a book that has had a real and lasting impact on our society and culture. Knowledge of Post’s rules of etiquette became a distinguishing mark of high society. This work makes the connection between books and their cultural impact tangible in a way that few others can claim.
