Octavo (7 1/2 x 5 inches; 190 x 130 mm). [i-viii], [1-2], 3-269, [1, blank] pp. Dark green cross-hatch cloth; title on cover stamped in blind, title on spine stamped in gilt. This copy INSCRIBED by the author on the front free end paper: "For George W | with many congratulationd | and good wishes | F Scott Fitzgerald." Overall a Near Fine example of the book with no other markings besides the inscription, clean sharp corners, tight and square, lacking the scarce dust jacket. Page three roughly opened, gilt on the spine dulled and a few small tears to the cloth at the ends of the spine. One of 5,000 copies of the first printing, this is Fitzgerald's first book of short stories. Published just six months after Fitzgerald's first novel, This Side of Paradise, Flappers and Philosophers contains "Bernice Bobs Her Hair," a contender for his finest and most famous short story.
