Harold and the Purple Crayon

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1955. First edition. A lovely copy of this children's high spot. Book Near Fine with the original owner's name and date written on the front end paper, otherwise in excellent condition. In the Near Fine original dust jacket with all issue points. Touches of wear at the spine end and corners, but on the whole a superior example of this wonderful book.

One of the most imaginative children’s books of its time, “Harold and the Purple Crayon” captivated readers with the allure of the magical. Johnson was originally known for the comic-strip, “Barnaby,” but had more lasting success with his children’s literature. The adventures of Harold and his purple crayon bring to life a world of artistic possibilities and freedom.

“Do we look at art to learn things, or to feel things? I’d vote for feeling, and that's why the art book I most recommend is Harold and the Purple Crayon…” (The New York Times Book Review, Deborah Solomon)
Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. (Item #1484)
